Every time I ask a question, if it has any tiny bit of a hint of religion, my family thinks I'm still searching for god and jesus. Gawd!

You aren't alone man. I believe agnostic and atheists are actually in the majority. It is just that a vast majority of people still go services and fake belief just so their spouse, family, coworkers won't harass them. Is that any excuse for not standing up for your beliefs, no. But, I understand why they choose to do it. But, if you were to allow people to declare their true feelings about religion and god without any possibility of recourse, there would be tremendous amounts of people who think it is all a load of crap. Which it is...

But you see, that's the point. I have to change what I do to accommodate his religious practices to get him to associate with me. It isn't that big of an issue, it's just the idea of it. I don't see why anyone should be allowed to say to me, "As long as you play by my religious rules, I'll associate with you. But , if you don't abide by my rules, it's game over." Why should I have to honor his religion in order to experience his friendship?

I do indeed find more acceptance here online than I do out in the real world.

Totally alone? No, I have a cat.

I agree with you on most of this, but your point about only going to places that have vegetarian food, and not eating at your house because you refuse to cook vegetarian isn't that crazy.
The reason he's a vegetarian doesn't make much sense, but if you won't make food he eats, it makes sense that he won't eat at your house.

Over the last 10 years or so I have drifted farther and farther from my christian friends from college, so I understand what you're going through.

When it begins, we're quick to just let the little slights go by... after all that's what friends are for, right? Christian weddings and such, well, I should not put my beliefs before my friends' happiness, should I? But as time goes by and we slowly begin to realize that everything our supposed friends do or say is colored by this fantasy life they're interested in imposing on us.

That they would not return the favor. It's a hard pill to swallow. But folks like you and sikanrong above and all the millions of non-believers on the internet; we can stick together, and without any preconceived religious restrictions.

We're not alone. There are more and more of us every day. The end result of education and time is the lessening of religions grip on us all. Hang in there!

I'll be your friend. This is an amazing post man, I feel so bad for you. I'm feeling pretty bad about everything at the moment though, so I don't know if it really means that much. Anyway, if it means anything, I really do feel the same as you right now. Totally fucking alone.
